Lake Lugano

Lugano, Switzerland

The Club Circolo Velico Lago di Lugano is siuated at the beautiful Lake Lugano in the South of Switzerland. In Lugano there are two types of wind. The Breva wind from the south which is a typically thermal wind that picks up at around 1pm in the afternoon and stays until around 5pm with a strength of 4 to 16 knots. The other  wind type is the Foehn, a strong northerly wind coming down the Alps with a strength of 18 to 40 knots. 
The Lugano regatta is reknown for good racing, a relaxed atmosphere and a good social program. This year, 2 pasta parties and a sailor's dinner are planned.
Winner's in the Standard & Radial rigs will be awarded a sail each by the organising club.

From North: Basel, Gotthard road Tunnel, direction Chiasso, exit Lugano north, direction lake, leave the congress building to your right, leave the park to your right, turn right just after the bridge.
From South: Chiasso, Exit Lugano sud, direction lake, leave lake on your right keep driving until congress building, leave the park to your right, turn right just after the bridge.

Scarlino (Follonica Bay), Italy:

This year's Italian Europa Cup regatta will take place in the comune of Scarlino in the Tuscany region on Italy's west coast. It will be organized by three clubs: Club Nautico Follonica, Club Nautico Scarlino and Gruppo vela L.N.I. Follonica. You can either stay in Scarlino itself or in Follonica which is a about 12km away from the club. Here are some of the hotels and bed & breakfasts recommended by the organizers:

Hyeres town

Hyères, France

Hyères in the southeast of France is a popular tourist destination with a mediterranean flair. Its warm moderate climate makes it an ideal place for sailing all year around.
The Laser Europa Cup Regatta will follow on from the Semaine Olympique Francaise also held in Hyères each year. It is one of the biggest regatta in the Europa Cup calendar, with 453 entries in 2008, and it is here that the 2008 winners will receive their prizes - ILCA awards and of course a brand new sail.

Hoorn harbour

Hoorn, The Netherlands

Hoorn is a very interesting and historically rich 17th century port. The town center is within walking distance from the launching site and definitely worth a visit.
Hoorn is reknown for it good race area and sailing infrastructure.
In terms of wind and weather, there is a great variety with winds possible from all directions and a force ranging from 5 to 25 knots and a swell of up to 1 meter.
The 179 competitors who attended the 2008 regatta were greeted by northerly and southerly winds ranging from 10 to 17 knots.

There are several hotels that we use for sailing events: Hotel Hoorn, Hotel de Magneet & Hotel Petit Nord.
Camping: closest site is Camping de Hulk (5 km from the harbour) or camping at the harbour, tents only without cars, or on car park De Nieuwe Wal te Hoorn for campers (no water and electricity available).

Aabenraa is situated at the head of Aabenraa Fjord on mainland Denmark north of the border to Germany.

Warnemunde

Warnemünde, Germany

The Europa Cup regatta in Warnemünde takes place as part of the Warnemünde Week, a big event on the annual sailing calendar.
The many boat classes represented at this event  attracted 2400 competitors from all over the world and 650,000 spectators in 2008, with 261 entries for the Europa Cup regatta. Warnemünde is on the Baltic sea coast of Germany, 10km north of the Hanseatic city of Rostock. The regatta itself takes place at the Marina Mittelmole which boasts excellent facilities such as sail makers, repair services, filling stations, parking, coffeeshops, cafetieras, toilets and showers. The train station and bars and restaurants are only a two minute walk away.
The entry fee will include a free meal, t-shirt and a disco.

Local Driving Information:

The sailing centre of Warnemuende is situated about 230 kilometres north of Berlin (German capital) and 10 kilometres north of the Hanseatic City of Rostock. The next international airport is to be found in Hamburg, Luebeck or Berlin, the regional airport is called Rostock-Laage, 30 minutes by car to Warnemuende, public transport available. Warnem?nde is closely connected to Scandinavia by ferry either to Gedser/Denmark, Trelleborg/Sweden, Helsinki/Finland.
By car: you can use the motorway BAB no A24 Berlin to Hamburg, BAB A19 towards Rostock or from Hamburg / Luebeck you can use the motorway BAB no A20 towards Rostock.
Public transport from Hamburg and Berlin by coach possible.

Nieuwpoort town

Nieuwpoort, Belgium

Nieuwpoort is a new addition to the Europa Cup schedule but will be familiar to many of you as it was the venue of the 2008 European Laser Senior Championships. Situated in the Flanders region of Belgium, it boasts good weather conditions and south south- westerly breeze which ranges from 5 to 25 knots.
Social events will include a sailors dinner on Thursday and a happy hour on Saturday. Also each competitor will be given a free polo-shirt.

Puck

Puck, Poland

Puck is a lively town on Poland's north coast, approximately 60km to the north-west of the historically important city Gdansk. A long spit stretches across the water from the east of Puck, creating a large, partially sheltered bay called Pucka bay around the harbour, making it an ideal venue for safe yet exciting sailing with northern to westerly winds between 10 and 20 knots.

Lake Attersee

Attersee, Austria:

Lake Attersee is the largest lake in the Salzkammergut area of Austria at the foot of the Alps. Famous for its winds and water quality, this is a superb spot for the Laser Europa Cup regatta. The main wind strength is about 4 to 6 knots. Winds from the the west or south can be shifty but reach up to 20knots in stronger conditions, while the prevailing wind from the north is very steady with a strength of 10 to 15 knots.
In 2009, the Attersee Laser Europa Cup regatta will run as part of the Austrian State Championships

Lake Balaton

Balatonfüred, Hungary

Balatonfuered, a popular resort town on the north shore of the Balaton Lake is a new addition to this year's Europa Cup. Superb water quality and temperatures above 20 degrees celsius from May to September make this is a beautiful spot for sailing.  Frequent low pressure weather systems moving into the Carpatian Basin produce strong north westerly winds which blow for three days. Before such a weather change a southerly wind blows for 1day. On sunny and quiet days there is a light termic breeze from the East which gradually moves towards the South East and South.
Accommodation is no problem in September time. A large camping site can be found within 1 km of the club. Plenty of hotels and private accommodation are also available.

Matosinhos, Portugal

Matosinhos is situated to the north of city Porto on the Portuguese coast. Average wind conditions range from 6 to 17 knots with a north-westerly breeze in fair weather and a south-westerly breeze in rainy conditions.
The Sport Club of Porto is reknown for promoting apres-sail friendship and putting on a good social program with a barbeque on the first day and a social dinner on the second day.

VIGO

Vigo, Spain

The host club Real Club N?utico de Vigo lies approximately 150km north of Matosinhos is Portugal and so makes this a perfect new addition to the Laser Europa Cup circuit. The Laser Europa Cup regatta will be part of the Caixa Nova - Semana del Atlantico, a sailing week emcompassing several dinghy classes and which attracted over 80 Laser sailors from Portugal and Spain alone in 2008.

The weather condidtions in October are usually sunny with a water temperature of 15 to 20 °C and a north to north-easterly wind that varies from 8 to 18 knots.

Hvar

Hvar, Croatia

The Hvar regatta takes place from 28th to 31st December and provides a truly spectacular end to the Europa Cup regatta. With an opening party, a fishing contest followed by a fish supper of the catch and finally a free New Year's Eve party in the town square with live music on top of all the competive sailing in the Adriatic sea, no-one will be left bored.
The wind conditions vary between a south-easterly breeze of 10 to 20 knots and a westerly breeze of 10 to 15 knots. The air temperature in December is around 10 to 15 degrees celsius while the sea temperature settles around 12 to 14 degrees celsius.

Caravan can be housed near the yacht club office area free of charge. A small fee may be asked for electricity connection.

There is a daily ferry (5 times) from Split harbour to Hvar and once a day from Ancona to Stari Grad on island Hvar, with Jadrolinija you will receive a 50% discount. Split harbour is well connected with Ancona (Italy) 2 or 3 times a day (with Jadrolinija 50% discount).
