The Laser South & Central American Championship at Fortaleza BRA began yesterday with three races for the 78 participants from nine nations. Edgar Diminich ECU was dominant on day with a 1, 3. 3 score, ahead of Alexander Zimmermann PER and the top woman, Cecilia Carranza ARG who posted an impressive 8, 2, 5 score in the 78-boat fleet. The Laser 4.7 and Laser Standard classes start their regattas next Wednesday. The comeback of the eight-time Laser World Champion Robert Scheidt BRA - very successful in the Starboat class in the meantime - will definitely be of special interest. The report (in port.).
