Laser Radial - World Championship 2010 - Final Day - No races, but two winners

in

If Tuesday had too little wind for the Laser Radial World Championships at Largs, yesterday had too much. Sustained 30 knots with gusts above 40 made racing on the Clyde impossible. Without a race on the final two days, Monday’s results became final: With only six races and one discard counted, Sari Multala FIN in the women’s division and Marcin Rudawski POL in the men’s successfully defended their 2009 World titles. Five of the top six women are either current or past Laser Radial World Champions. Second behind Multala was Marit Bouwmeester NED, followed by Paige Railey USA on the same points aggregate as Sarah Steyaert FRA, the 2008 champion. Anna Tunnicliffe USA (47) finished in seventh. Winner of the silver fleet was Rubel Yuan CHN.
In the men’s event, Rudawski displayed upwind speed, fitness and consistency, winning four of the six races. He promised to be back next year in LaRochelle FRA. In second, Wojciech Zemke POL, followed by Mitchell Kiss USA, at 15 the youngest member of the US development team. 92 participants. The results page and the gallery.
