Cold temperatures and a shifty breeze of 15 knots welcomed the sailors on the first day of the 5th ISAF World Cup event in medemblik NED. The Laser Radials und Standards had three races with few surprises as the dominating performers this year wound up on top again. Javier Hernandez ESP, the leader in the overall World Cup standings, posted a stellar 1,1,3 score in the Laser Standard class, which puts him clear ahead of Tom Slingsby AUS und Matias Del Solar CHI, who are tied on points in second and third. Olympic Gold medalist Paul Goodison GBR started well with a sixth and a first, but had to retire from Race 3 and dropped to 30th overall. Marit Bouwmeester NED used her home-field advantage in the Laser Radial, finishing 1,4,1 to carve out a seven-point lead over Veronika Fenclova CZE and Evi Van Acker BEL. Read the official report.
