Today, the Midwinters East of the Laser Class begins in Florida with 189 participants from 27 (!) nations. A number of European top sailors extended their trip to the Miami World Cup Regatta in January for further trainings and racing, but with temperatures from 5° to 10°, the weather has not been as accommodating as expected. However, the wind condition were excellent with 15-30 kn.
The favorites for the Midwinters are Paige Railey USA and the Olympic champion Paul Goodison GBR. To mention from Europe among others the Olympic medalist Andreas Geritzer AUT and a strong German team with Simon Grotelüschen GER, Marco Grasse GER, Lisa Fasselt GER and Anke Helbig GER. In the women's fleet, the only French entry Sophie de Turkheim FRA and Nathalie Brugger SUI are to watch as top-10 candidates. The event-website.
