After two idle days at the 2010 Laser Master Worlds in Hayling Island GBR the breeze had exhausted itself, switching from brute force to moderate and shifty with lumpy seas for the 350 sailors from 30 countries. In the Standard rig all leaders remained seated, but nobody is really comfortable: Defending Standard Apprentice champion Adonis Bougiouris GRE was pleased enough to emerge from his ongoing duel with Brett Beyer AUS with a one-point lead. In the 84 boat Standard Masters qualifying ended yesterday, setting the fleet up for a split into Gold and Silver. Counting one discard, leader Arnoud Hummel NED has three bullets now after fighting back from bad starts. Back two points is Scott Ferguson USA, the defending champ, who won Race 4. Andy Roy CAN remains solidly in third while John Bertrand USA moved up 10 spots to 5th. The Standard Grand Masters right now are trying to solve Peter Vesella USA, the fastest retiree above age 50 to sail a Laser. With three points after three races and a discard hes still perfect, but three points back Wolfgang Gerz GER is keeping him honest. Gerz on the other hand is only one point ahead of Peter Sundelin SWE.
In Radial Apprentice Scott Leith NZL scored a second and a first for a three-point lead over Jean-Christophe Leydet FRA, while Steve Cockerill GBR had two thirds in Radial Masters to stay four points clear of Joao Ramos BRA. Lady skip Lyndall Patterson AUS slipped a bit with 11-5 yesterday, but remains in the lead in the Radial GM, tied with Bruce Martinson USA. In third Kevin Pearson GBR, tied on points with Alden Shattuck USA. Close racing also in Radial GGM where the elder statesmen are turning back the clock. Keith Wilkins GBR, who is yet to finish outside the top three, has a four-point lead over Peter Seidenberg USA who tacked on an OCS in Race 4, a fat discard indeed. Right behind Seidenberg though, Kerry Waraker AUS and Dave Schmidt NZL are lurking. The report and all results.
