Contrary to the Worlds of the Olympic Standard Lasers that were sailed mostly in moderate conditions two weeks ago, the Masters Championship began yesterday in a fresh breeze with big waves. The 350 participants from age 35 (Apprentice Master) to 83 (Great Grand Master) finished two races partly with very clear results. Adonis Bougiouris GRE got two bullets in the Standard Apprentice Masters, as did Arnoud Hummel NED in the Standard Masters. More disputed however the Standard Grand Masters with Peter Vesella USA leading ahead of the tied Peter Sundelin SWE and Wolfgang Gerz GER.
In the Radial Apprentice, Scott Leigh NZL leads Jean-Christophe Leydet FRA and Matthias Brühl GER. In the Radial Masters, Stephen Cockerill GBR had two race wins, as has Lyndall Patterson NZL in the Radial Grand Masters. David Schmidt NZL and Keith Wilkins GBR (Laser European Champion 1976) are sharing first place in the Radial Great Grand Masters.
