Laser Europa Cup Hyeres FRA - More breeze but no change in winners circle

More backbreaking winds (25+ knots) for the Laserati on the last day of the European Cup regatta in Hyeres, FRA., which prompted the RC to cut short proceedings after one race. Still, the Swedes continued their stranglehold on the 99-boat Laser Standard fleet by putting eight of their sailors in the top 10 and occupying the entire podium. Jesper Stalheim (26) fended off Emil Cerdergardh (28), and David Jonsson (31). In the Laser Radial, Marcin Rudawski POL destroyed the competition in the 276-boat fleet with all bullets(!). Expect to hear more from this young man. Louis Moysan FRA and Mattis Naud FRA had to settle for second and third, respectively. French Revenge was the motto for the 139-boat Laser 4.7 fleet with Leo Vilboux and Jean Baptiste Guillou in first and third. Sandwiched between them was Guillome Rigot SUI in second. Word is that the 2011 edition of this regatta might be headed to La Rochelle. A report on the International Laser Class page suggested discontent with the media policies in Hyeres and the quality of the trophies awarded at an event that attracted 515 Laser sailors from across Europe.
