The 2010 Laser Atlantic Coast Championship at Sayville Yacht Club, NY, attracted 98 competitors from as far away as Texas, Michigan and Puerto Rico. The event saw SW breezes from 12 to 22 knots with gusts beyond 25. Two races each on Saturday and Sunday were plenty for most competitors and the brave crash boat crews who had busy days. In the 45-boat Laser Standard class, Junior Greg Martinez (11 pts.) scored two bullets on Saturday and closed out the deal on Sunday. Second was David Alfonso (Open, 21 pts.) who pipped Mike Matan (Master, 22 pts.) in the post with a third-place finish in the last race. In the 48-boat Laser Radials, the podium belonged to two Crains and a Kiss. Junior Carson Crain (8 pts.) took the title, followed by Mitchell Kiss (Junior, 15 pts.) and Phil Crain (Open, 19 pts.) Best girl was Erika Reineke (Junior, 30 pts.) in fifth. In the Laser 4.7 Rachel Bryer scored three bullets to take the regatta. Noteworthy: 13-year old Brian Cremer finishing all races in his first Laser regatta since leaving Optis. Get the full report. Thanks to Ted Cremer for keeping us in the know.
