Second day of racing in Torbole for the Europa Cup, Laser Class. At 12 noon the 470 boats get on the water in light and shifty air. The race Committee waits for the Ora, the wind that blows on Lake Garda from south, to get steady in order to start the races.
At 1 pm the first two groups of the Standards and 4.7 begin their race. At the first buoy the Italian Marco Gallo is first, followed by another Italian, Luca Nassini, who is also second on the provisional standings. The second group of the Standard Class is once again led by Ivan Taritas, first at the first buoy and first on the provisional standings thanks to his two first places on the previous day. At the second upwind buoy Marco Gallo is still leading his group, but the wind drops completely and on the racing course there are only 2-3 knots from the initial 8-10, a situation that forces the race Committee to stop the fleet.
Same destiny for the Laser 4.7 whose race is suspended. In the meanwhile on the Laser Radial racing course, located in front of Torbole, the boats wait for the wind to come, after a general OCS, the Committee waits again and at 4 pm decides to cancel the race and send back all the boats.
Needed to be mentioned the very fair and honest decision taken by the Dutch athlete Ben Koppelaar that in the morning produces to the jury his decision to withdraw from the first race because of a mistake in the first upwind buoy made on the previous day. By dropping this result the Dutch, who was leading the provisional standing up to that moment, goes to the 95th position and the Italian Giovanni Coccoluto gains two places and finishes second on the standings behind the incredible Tatiana Drozdovskaya (1; 1).
Tomorrow the start will be at 12:00.
