ILCA – SailCoach Laser 4.7 Pre-Europeans Training Clinic

in

As a pilot project, to test the need and demand for this type of services, the International Laser Class Association European region, in association with SailCoach, has organized a three days training clinic in Workum, the Netherlands, July 5-7, right before the Laser 4.7 European Championships 2011.
The main goal of the clinic was to give assistance to sailors coming from small countries or less developed regions of Europe, to young athletes having no or limited access to high level coaching. In order to keep the coaching standards high, the number of participating young sailors was limited to 12. The participation in this clinic was free of charge.
Overall, a dozen youngsters from half a dozen countries have benefited from this initiative. All of them feeling more prepared for the upcoming big European event.
The clinic started around 11.00hrs each morning with a group briefing carried out by Laurinas, the former Olympian coach, and finished at around 16:00hrs with a detailed analysis. The clinic combined “classroom” lessons with on the water exercises. As the weather was most of the time nice and really well suited for training, all participants had a fruitful three-days run.
Hopefully more Laser clinics to come in the future.
