Two years ago at the 2014 ISAF Sailing World Championships in Santander, Spain, the first sailors qualified their countries taking the firststep to Rio 2016. The qualification has now come full circle on a two year trip around the world to finish where it started, in Spain, with the final European country places awarded at the recently completed Trofeo S.A.R Princesa Sofia regatta in Palma.
The final European country places for the Laser Radial Women go to Hungary and Portugal. Congratulations go to Maria Erdi (HUN) and Sara Carmo (POR) for qualifying their countries to compete in the 2016 Games.
The last two European country places for the Laser Standard Men go to Russia and the Czech Republic. Congratulations to Sergey Komissarov (RUS) and Viktor Teply (CZE) for qualifying their countries for the 2016 Olympics.
The remaining places for the 2016 Olympic Games for the Laser and Laser Radial classes are to be awarded by the Tripartite Commission according to the rules established by the International Olympic Committee.
