4.7 European Championships, Workum NED - Day 2

in

To the delight of many, the second racing day, the march produced by the Spanish sailing Armada the first day, has been stopped. Mostly thanks to the light sailing conditions, but, also, to some yellow flags distributed over the day.
The light breeze was mostly westerly of around 6-9 knots, shifting to the right later on. The first races were run without major problems, but on the North Course it took more than 40 minutes for last fleet of the second race to get under way. The large number of BFDs (well over 30) came as no surprise to any of the participants.
It is worth mentioning that Swiss Timing (a Swiss-German company which is using this event as a trial) is providing live coverage of the regatta using 300 tracking devices. The progress of the races can be followed live on site or on the internet.  Provisional, non-official race results are available right after each race. Review is also available for analysis. Despite its teething problems the complete set up is fantastic indeed.
After 4 races, with one drop kicking in, the provisional leader board (before protests) for the girls looks like: Jonker Maxime, NED; Fakidi Athanasia, GRE; and Presa Yllera Lucia, ESP.  And for the boys: Cabrera Gonzalez Juan Kevin, ESP; Schneiter Sebastian, SUI and Vadnai Benjamin, HUN.
